In the field of martial arts, he brought home the silver in the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Singapore, 1982 and was captain player of the national team and national taekwondo champion for 4 consecutive years. Moving on from player to coach, he developed the PMA (Phil. Military Academy) teams from 1983-1992, during which they never fell from the ranks of champions on the national, international, intercollegiate and local levels, a feat no one has duplicated before his term and after. The Teams became National champions, placed fourth overall in The World Military Taekwondo Championships, Korea, 1987, and were the undefeated best in the “Best of the Best” championships at Baguio City from 1986-1988. For 4 years straight (1987-1990), he bagged the National Best Coach award in Taekwondo. He coached Ali Atienza and Bea Lucero in some of their finest Taekwondo moments.
